We as an organisation do not take market positions as this is high risk. We have been trading in raw cashew seeds for the past 20 years and as such have established close and personal links with all the major processors in India. As a result of this we are in a far better position to provide quality goods at a competitive price. We can also ensure that regardless of price fluctuations, our customers receive the goods at the time stated and at the agreed price. India is the largest processor of raw cashew seeds and exporter of cashew kernels. The annual production of raw cashew seeds in India is in the region of 500,000 metric tonnes. With this quantity of raw cashew seeds, the factories in India can only run for approximately 6 months of the year. Hence they have to import raw cashew seed from other countries, such as Ivory Coast (130,000 tonnes), Tanzania (80,000 tonnes), Indonesia (35,000 tonnes) and various other African countries.
There are 6 stages in the processing of raw cashews seeds and this normally takes 6 to 7 days from the date of input of raw materials till the date the finished product is obtained.
The cashew kernel market is highly volatile and the price is mainly dominated by buyers and brokers in line with demand and supply. The majority of cashew kernel producers are small in size and are vulnerable to even the smallest of market fluctuations. It takes approximately 4 months from the time of buying the raw seeds to the time it gets exported. Some processors see the parity of purchase and export prices and do forward trading of cashew kernels on the same day. Others take a risk and leave the position open and gamble on the market going up. This makes the trading of cashew kernels very high risk.
